In Terms of Industry 4.0, Germany Has to Catch up
According to the PwC Strategy & “Global Digital Operations 2018 Survey”, digital or digitally enhanced products in the manufacturing sector will make up an average of 22% of the turnover in German companies by 2023. To do this, Germany needs to build its own culture of digital transformation. But the problem often lies within the lack of internal know-how. For example, 41% of the German managers surveyed state that their companies lack the ability to develop and implement digital solutions.
Good Prospects for the Steel Industry in 2018
The confidence in the steel market is strengthened and thus, according to the worldsteel Short Range Outlook of April 2018, steel demand will increase this year by 1.8% compared to the previous year. In emerging and developing countries, with the exception of China, an increase of 4.9% is expected.
Climate Project of the Federal Government – Promotion Program for the Development of Emission-free Technologies
Annually 56 million t of CO2 are emitted from fossil fuels in the steel industry. The new Minister for the Environment Svenja Schulze is now reacting to the situation. She aims to accelerate the federal promotion program for the decarbonization of energy-intensive companies as early as possible before its planned launch in 2020. It will cover up to 50% of the costs for the development of emission-free technologies.
